Welcome to Mountain States Construction’s annual ranking of the biggest projects to be completed this calendar year in Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska, North and South Dakota’s, plus a list of new projects that have broken or will break ground in 2010.

The Denver Justice Center project built a new courthouse and detention facility in the heart of Denver’s historic Civic Center.

2. Colorado State Penitentiary II

Colorado State Penitentiary II is a 948-bed, high-custody correctional facility located adjacent to Centennial Correctional Facility at the East Cañon City Prison Complex. CSPII construction includes inmate housing and support facilities based on the existing Colorado State Penitentiary building prototype.

3. Aurora Processing Center Annex

The Aurora Processing Center Annex is a 1,106-bed male and female detention center. Owned and operated by The GEO Group Inc., the 213,465-sq-ft processing center consists of three general housing units, one segregated housing unit, one female dorm, administration areas, a full kitchen, laundry area, holding area, visitation area, three courtrooms and a medical support area. It is currently awaiting a government contract.

4. Kansas Statehouse South Wing Preservation & Restoration

The Kansas Statehouse Preservation and Restoration was designed as a 10-year, fi ve-phase project. The South Wing Restoration removed all antiquated mechanical, electrical, plumbing and lighting systems, replacing them with more-efficient, modern systems.

5. Pueblo Municipal Justice Center

The 105,000-sq-ft Pueblo Municipal Justice Center contains new police operations, holding cells, courtrooms, information technology, city offices and public spaces. The project features sustainable design and materials, complete with site improvements, parking lots, sidewalks and landscaping.
