General contractor GE Johnson Construction, Colorado Springs and Denver, completed the vertical expansion and complete reconstruction two days ahead of schedule, more than 200,000 sq ft of ultra-high end construction in less than six months.

Guests began arriving May 15 to mark the next chapter in the history of the resort and kick off what promises to be an extremely busy tourism season.

Designed by CSNA Architects, Colorado Springs, the project is a testament to local talent and a fitting addition to the resort campus, say project officials. Preplanning, including extensive 3D coordination and prefabrication, began more than six months before construction started last October.

The project added a full two new guest floors to the resort’s existing western wing. Additionally, the structure of the hotel was expanded by approximately 8 ft, including complete new foundations. The project added more than 200,000 sq ft of new and reconstructed space, including 180 hotel rooms.

Inside the hotel, extensive renovations were made to existing guest rooms, including installation of custom-built, prefabricated luxury bathrooms. On the main level, the Charles Court Restaurant was transformed into the new Ristorante Del Lago. It features hand-blown glass chandeliers, imported 300-year-old Italian tile, real Venetian plaster and extensive custom woodwork and painting.

The bar and lobby areas now have marble, handmade glass elements, custom mosaic tile inlays and ornate wood paneling and trim elements.

The Broadmoor was purchased by Philip Anschutz in 2011. The completion of the Broadmoor West renovation and addition comes as part of the $112-million reinvestment Anschutz has made since acquiring the destination resort.
