Construction is underway in North Salt Lake on the Spectrum Academy Charter School , a two-story, 32,200-sq-ft public school for grades 9 through 12. It will address the educational and social needs of students with High-Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome.
The new facility, designed by i.Design, will accommodate 300 students, with future plans for vocational training. Construction is planned to be complete for the 2010-11 school year. Spectrum Academy will lease the building while generating the funding needed to purchase the building and furnishings.
The approximated $5.5-million capital campaign is in the beginning stages with anticipated support from local corporations, philanthropic groups and grant opportunities.
Sahara Inc. of Bountiful is the contractor.
