“ABC is pleased to present these industry-leading construction projects and firms with our Excellence in Construction, National Safety Excellence and National Diversity Excellence awards,” said ABC President and CEO Michael D. Bellaman. “This year’s winners are exceptional examples of the outstanding craftsmanship, professionalism and commitment to safety that embody merit shop construction.”

The Excellence in Construction award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.

The following Colorado companies were honored with awards: Eagle Winner; Community/Public Service Award to Roche Constructors for the Patrick B. Roche Memorial Baseball Training Facility for Kids Remodel; Pyramid Winner; Electrical-Commercial Less than $5 Million Award to Duro Electric Co. for the Denver County Jail; Mechanical-Commercial $2-10 Million Award to RK Mechanical Inc. for the History Colorado Center.

The 2012 National Safety Excellence Award winners were selected from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond and Platinum status in ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP). During the selection process, national safety winners were judged on self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable rates, use of leading indicators, innovation in processes and training and interviews conducted by members of ABC’s National Environment, Health & Safety Committee.

The following Colorado companies were honored with merit awards: Specialty Contractor to MTech Mechanical Technologies Group and RK Mechanical Inc.

The National Diversity Excellence Awards winners were selected for diversity leadership in their work force, supply chain and community with best-in-class recruitment policies, retention practices, and training and mentoring programs.
2012 National Diversity Excellence Award recipients were United Rentals, Supplier, and Hensel Phelps Construction Co., General Contractor.
